In this paper, atmospheric pollution in large cities is first analized
as a global problem. The pollution effects over greatly populated
cities are identified and the affected world population fraction is
estimated. Most important atmospheric pollutants and their effect on
human health are also described.
Secondly, the environmental problems of the city of Santiago are
analized. A general diagnostic is introduced and the emissionīs
contribution by source are presented. Thus, the outputs of the
application from the first Metropolitan Region Pollutant Prevention
Plan is evaluated.
Finally, a general outline of a new Metropolitan Region Pollutant
Prevention Plan, recently approved by Government, is presented.
