Instructions for Authors (Instrucciones para Contribuyentes)

Our goal with this publication is to create a site to disseminate recent advances in science and technology to a broad spectrum of the society and not only to specialists or professionals. For this reason, submitted articles must be serious and in-depth while maintaining a breath that will reach those interested but not necessarily versed in scientific matters.

Contributed articles should have a maximum length of 7 pages of single spaced text in single column. A numbered list of endnotes should be used instead of footnotes and should be referred to in the text enclosed in square brackets, for example [3]. The text shall be submitted electronically in either Word, Word Perfect, or HTML formats. Alternatively, only documents in pure text, preferably *.RTF "rich text format", will be accepted. Authors should be specially careful to check their document for grammar and spelling. The official language is Spanish. Therefore, articles submitted in another language will be translated and both versions will be published. Translation is possible at this point for articles in English, French and Portuguese. For other languages the author should check with us before considering submition of a manuscript. Ciencia al Día Internacional will consider only articles in their final form, including, aside from the main text, at least the following:

No incomplete versions or drafts will be accepted.

The text shall begin with the title, the name(s) of the author(s), and their e-mail address, followed by a 200 word abstract both in the original language and in English. The abstract should be written in general terms and describe the subject of the article in a way that is understandable to laypersons. The purpose of the abstract is to give the reader the "flavor" of what is to be found in the main text and to invite the reader to read it. The figures can be included with the text only if the latter is submitted in Word, Word Perfect or HTML. They can have a maximum size of 400 (width) x 250 (height) pixels. Animated figures are accepted. The total size of all figures and animations shall not exceed 500kBytes. Figures (in GIF or JPEG format) as well as tables (sent as images in GIF or JPEG format) must be sumitted as separate files with a clearly identifiable name. In both cases the approximate position of the figures and tables shall be clearly stated in the text. Figures copied from already published material can be used only if they are submitted with the appropriate explicit authorization by the publishing house or authorized person. Video clips are also acceptable if they are submitted in either QuickTime or RealVideo formats and fit within the maximum allotted space for figures (500kBytes).

Notes shall follow the main body of the text as a numbered list. Bibliographic references shall follow the notes and must be formatted as follows:

The use of references within the text should be in parenthesis as follows: (Bixley, 1995; Brownell & Weber, 1995; Charlier et al., 1997; Cohen & Noll, 1994).

If the text contains special scientific terms that require definition and/or explanation for the general reader, we suggest the inclusion of a glossary following the bibliographic references.

Because this publication is published electronically in the Internet as a WWW site, we want to make the best use of this powerful medium. We therefore suggest that the authors include a list of WWW sites of interest links (or a list of URLs) to web sites where other material related to the subject of their article is treated or explained. It is the responsibility of the authors and not of the editorial board of Ciencia al Día Internacional to verify the quality and scope of these web sites.

We strongly encourage the inclusion of pointers (URLs) to interactive software or any other interactive medium (video, sound, etc.) that may help the reader learn some aspects related to the article's subject in an active and effective way. As previously indicated, such material can be included in our site only if it does not exceed the 500kBytes allotted to figures.

Submitted material must be original and must not be published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The use of copyrighted material, such as text, figures, tables, algorithms, sound, video, etc. (see note at the end) will be accepted only if each borrowed element is submitted with an accompanying explicit authorization from the legal copyright holder of that material.

Every submitted article will be reviewed by our editorial board and experts in the appropriate field selected by our subject editors. We will consider suggestions by the authors of reviewer's names (please include name, affiliation and e-mail address).

The manuscript shall conclude with a brief (3-4 line long) biographic note of each of the authors

Note

To aid the authors in the preparation of their submission, we have prepared a summary of copyright obligations and rights, which can be used for information purposes only. This summary is not exhaustive and cannot be used as evidence in a court of law in case of a copyright infringement lawsuit.
