Las chaperoninas: Máquinas plegadoras de proteínas

[RESUMEN] ABSTRACT

Molecular chaperones are an ample family of proteins involved in assisting the folding of other proteins. Chaperonins or 60kDa chaperones (Hsp60) are the best characterized members of this family, and are divided in two groups, those found in eubacteria and eukaryotic organelles (Group I) and those found in arqueobacteria and in the eukaryotic cytosol (Group II). Both types of chaperonins share a similar architecture but posses important differences regarding the folding mechanism and the conformational changes related to the folding cycle.
