A narration of the experiences of cuban and northamerican scientists during their struggle to  incorporate the cuban scientific community with that of the rest of the world while dealing with the limitations imposed by the embargo. It includes details and an interview regarding the first Society of Neuroscience satelite conference held in Havana, Cuba. It concludes with a page out of the personal history of Dr. Jose Lemos, a USA delegate during the conference, which highlights the human cost of the embargo
