[RESUMEN] ABSTRACT

Chile is currently under a major educational reform in order to achieve a higher quality and more equity in our education. More resources, textbooks, infrastructure and a new curriculum are part of this comprehensive effort. An Information Technology initiative, better known as the "Enlaces Network", is also a component of the reform. Its aim is to properly integrate information and networking technologies in Chilean public schools.

Enlaces started officially in 1992 as a pilot project with 12 primary schools. By mid 1999, 4200 primary and secondary schools will be working with Enlaces. At the end of 1999, all secondary schools will be part of this initiative and by the year 2000, Enlaces will be reaching 90% of the Chilean student population.

Enlaces is about teacher training (two years in house training), curriculum related software and web content, collaborative projects and classroom activities with information technology and networks. It is also about building an educational network for the professional development of teachers and for the empowerment of our student´s learning capabilities.
